Ali Hoesly is entering her third season with the Pitt women’s basketball program as director of basketball operations. Hoesly joined head coach Lance White’s staff on June 1, 2018.
Hoesly manages the day-to-day operations of the program including logistics of team practices, meals and meetings. She is also responsible for team travel while also overseeing the Pitt student-manager team.
A Summit, N.J., native, Hoesly arrived in Pittsburgh after spending two seasons at Florida State with Lance White. In 2016-17, Hoesly served as assistant director of basketball operations before assuming the role of executive assistant to the head coach and director of recruiting operations for Seminoles head coach Sue Semrau in 2017-18.
In her two years at Florida State, Hoesly’s extensive duties included executing operational tasks, recruiting operations and creative initiatives for the Seminoles. She managed recruit profiles in several databases, organized coaches’ recruiting travel/evaluation period schedules and facilitated official and unofficial recruit visits. She coordinated the creation and distribution of all recruiting graphics, mail-outs and social media posts, while supervising a group of graphic designers and helping maintain head coach and assistant coach’s social media accounts. In doing so, Hoesly helped to sign the No. 4 recruiting class in the nation (No. 1 in the ACC) for 2018.
In addition, Hoesly assisted the director of basketball operations with the daily operations of the team and helped facilitate team travel while on the road. She was also responsible for all summer camp operations.
Hoesly was appointed to assist the Seminoles’ sports information director with social media posts on all social media platforms, and was responsible for updating graphics during the season as well as the 2017 and 2018 ACC and NCAA Tournaments.
Prior to her time in Tallahassee, Hoesly was head student manager for the women’s basketball program at Rutgers from June 2014 to May 2016 for Hall of Fame coach C. Vivian Stringer. She regulated daily team operations for the director of basketball operations, coaching staff and players while supervising and recruiting student managers and practice players for each season. Her duties also included organizing logistics of travel, game day assignments, official recruiting visits and summer camp. For her hard work, she was named the school’s “Manager of the Year.”
During her undergraduate career at Rutgers, Hoesly also worked as an operations intern for the WNBA’s Washington Mystics from May to September 2015. She assisted the director of basketball operations in daily operations, such as creating travel itineraries, expose reports, spreadsheets and playoff budget, as well as updating monthly schedules and organizing per diem. She operated the game/shot clock during practice, assisted with rebounding and practice drills, aided the equipment manager with facility set up and takedown before/after practice and games and supervised visiting team locker room and court staff. Furthermore, Hoesly updated league and team statistics in addition to opponent and player profiles via FastScout.
Hoesly is a 2016 graduate of Rutgers, where she earned her bachelor’s degree in exercise science and sports studies with a sport management option and a minor in criminology.
